These are a few of my favorite things
I haven’t updated in a while, life has been hectic. I thought I would take the time to share some of the things I hold near and dear to my heart. Here goes.
Grey’s Anatomy
I fell in love with Grey’s Anatomy during the first episode and never looked back. Over the past few years we’ve had a few hiccups in our relationship, but I always come back for more. The unconditional love shared between Christina and Meredith reminds me of the friendship I have with my roommate Charlotte. The friendship that the group of doctors at Seattle Grace shares reminds me of my tight knit family of friends who always serve as a bright spot when the rest of my life seems to be in shambles. I can’t wait to spend my Thursday nights in bed curled up watching the new season of Grey’s Anatomy.
Sex and the City
I’ve seen every single episode of Sex and the City at least two times (some more like 100). When I’m having a bad day, week, month….I turn on the girls and suddenly things just aren’t quite as bad. Just like Grey’s Anatomy this show reminds me what real friendships are all about and I love how the girls grow over the years. This week the Sex and the City movie came out on DVD and I rose from my deep slumber early to head to Target to buy it before work. I’d already seen the movie twice in theaters, but I just had to see it on Tuesday. I ended up watching it with Charlotte that night in celebration of her 23rd birthday. We laughed, we cried (OK OK…I cried) and we remembered all of the great times we’ve had together. What a wonderful way to spend an evening. If you haven’t seen the movie or the series, get busy. You need to catch up.
Nights in
I’ve been so busy lately that my nights out with friends have become few and far between, but this week I managed to gather all of my closet friends together to celebrate Charlotte’s birthday Thursday night. We decided to meet at Chili’s since they have some of the best margaritas in Greenville and enjoy drinks, dinner and fabulous conversation. As we all sat laughing, talking about politics and telling stories I was suddenly struck by the moment. In that moment I felt that this is what life is about. This is what we live for. These are the moments that get us up out of bed every morning. I’ve grateful to have such lovely, introspective, thoughtful and sincere people in my life. As we all continue to grow and move in separate directions, it’s a comfort to know that nights like this can bring us back together. After leaving Chili’s we had planned to head downtown to a bar for the remainder of the evening, but we decided to take the conversation back to our apartment instead. That night, a weight started to lift off of my shoulders as I lay on the carpet with my friends Kim and Brandon discussing life. I haven’t felt that carefree in a long time, it was a nice relief from my everyday life. I’ve decided to make these nights in a monthly gathering. Sometimes good friends, deep conversation and margaritas are the perfect escape.
Hoodies
I’m so relieved that fall has finally arrived and I can rock my ECU hoodies again. Hoodies are hands down my favorite piece of clothing. A hoodie paired with worn-in jeans, old flip flops and a messy bun makes me feel more like myself than any other outfit.
Tina Fey on SNL
I haven’t watched Saturday Night Live much since Tina Fey left the show. Fey has always been hysterical, but her Sarah Palin skits are by far the best of the best. I laughed out loud during the skit last night. Fey’s portrayal of the Republican vice presidential candidate is dead on.
